How do I interact with men?

I know I need to interact with men and I actually think platonic relationships are healthy, however I don’t think men respect women. I’m going to be 21 in less than two months, and I can’t continue living like this. I don’t even make eye contact with men in the gym because things get strange. What do I do omg
