I think it turned out nicely!

Process was as follows:

Setup a job within cricut design space using the complete card image, designated as “Print and Cut” and a separated SVG I generated first as a raster in procreate that I concerted into an SVG with inkscape that defines the “texture” lines.

This vector layer was attached to the print and cut job and set to Fine Point Foil Tool (gold material). I then duplicated the foil tool job and changed the material to silver and aligned the job to be in the same place to force the cricut to do a second pass over the pattern.

I sent the print job to the printer (Brother MFC J4440DW) using the system print panel to set the proper photo settings, and printed the card onto Diamond Holo Foil Sticky Paper that is compatible with Inkjet printers.

Once printed I applied the sticker sheet to a sheet of “thick” A4 paper (because the slight increase in thickness over standard bulk office paper helps with the feel of the card imo).

Then I ran the sheet through a laminator (the cheapest I could get from Kmart) inside an 80 micron matte laminator pocket.

Then I stuck the laminated sheet onto the cricut job mat and put it into my Cricut Explore Air 2 with a fine point foil tool installed into slot B, to continue the job I started earlier.

The cricut then performed registration to confirm the position of the card and perform the first pass of the pattern. Once done it asked for me to change the foil and press go again, but I’m obviously not using any foil so I just told it to continue.

Once it was done I cancelled the rest of the job and cut the card free from the sheet with a rotary bypass trimmer and rounded the corners with a corner cutter (The kadomaru pro).

And that was it!

I didn’t use any acrylic gloss to do spot foiling but I think the embossed pattern helps make the foiling pop, even if it is a little muted behind the matte laminate.

I do want to include acrylic spot foiling in the future but haven’t got that process sorted to a satisfactory level yet. It also would be cool to try and apply actual metallic foil to text or frames using the same process on the cricut.

I’ve tried to do the same texturing with gloss laminate but the effect is really underwhelming and not worth the effort.

Experimented with adding texture/etching to this proxy.
