Advice on living with parents with 4m baby while house hunting
TLDR should me and baby live with my mum to house hunt and save money or stay in our rental while husband house hunts.
My partner and I are wanting to relocate from Perth to regional wa for his work. I am on maternity leave until later this year. We currently rent in Perth and are wanting to buy in our new location.
We have been given the option to move in with my mum and her husband while we look for a house and go through the stages of buying - probably 3-4 months. This would mean we break lease at our rental and wouldn’t need to pay rent. My partner has guaranteed work in our new spot.
So the issue is I am not that keen to move in with them with our baby who is 4 months old and our dog. The chance to save on rent and have a place while house hunting is really good and I’m grateful but I need my own living space. We are doing a week at their house to see what it’s like and so far it’s fine but I’m definitely on alert al the time and struggle to focus on parenting. Our dog barks at my mums husband so needs to be outside or contained when he is home which puts stress on me.
Option 1 is to break lease and move to my mums house, partner works full time, I’m home with baby, we save on rent, however I’m not relaxed and stress is high. While I don’t have to pay rent I am expected to do housework - fine but I don’t like feeling like I HAVE to, I choose to do it if that makes sense. Housework has never been an issue.
Option 2 is we continue our lease in Perth and I live there with baby and dog while my partner is in new town working and house hunting. This means I have my own home that I know my way around and am comfortable but downside is we are apart for days at a time. I will move once we have a house to move into.we obviously would have higher expenses this way and save slower. Savings deposit isn’t an issue we already have a bit for a house.
I’m stuck on what to do because I know what’s smarter but also I never envisioned my maternity leave to be me living at their house and not being able to find my flow in motherhood.
