Dr Pepper

I was part of a conversation about Dr Pepper today, with the consensus that everyone thought it was disgusting - everyone in the discussion thinks it tastes like medicine.

This got me wondering, as it is a very popular drink in America (I'm assuming), is it an acquired taste, and how popular is it where you are from?
