Has anyone ever tried to illustrate philosophy? (Literally)

I am interested in any attempts that have been made to illustrate philosophical ideas and systems. Do y'all think this would be a worthwhile endeavour or would it (in the Leibnizian sense) force us to rely too much on our imagination rather than our 'intellect'. Why is all philosophy all and only words? Is that the best way to communicate or to have philosophical ideas? Is this a worthwhile line of inquiry? I don't know about anybody else but when I call to mind the philosophies of say Leibniz or Spinoza, I call to mind some pretty powerful images. I guess, the deeper question I have here is what knowledge of philosophical systems like theirs even is ? How can I have knowledge of Leibniz's theory of monads for example that is wholly separate from these images I have in my head when I call to mind the theory of monads.
