CMV: High social energy is often mistaken for strong personality traits

It often seems that people who display high social energy like speaking loudly, reacting quickly, amplifying emotion, commanding attention are described as having “big” or “strong” personalities.

However, what is being observed may simply be comfort with stimulation and visibility, rather than the presence of particularly developed personality traits. High expressiveness captures attention. Attention creates salience. Salience is then interpreted as substance.

In contrast, individuals who are less outwardly reactive or less socially dominant may be perceived as having “less personality,” even when their traits, values, internal consistency, emotional regulation, cognitive complexity, etc. are equally developed but less externally visible.

The argument is not that socially energetic individuals lack personality, but that visibility is being conflated with magnitude.

Expressiveness and dominance are specific traits. They are not synonymous with character strength, psychological structure, or individuality.

If there is evidence that high social energy reliably indicates stronger or more developed personality traits beyond extraversion or dominance, that would challenge this view. Change my view?
