Upcoming surgery and very nervous
Hi all. I decided to make this during a flare up at 1 in the morning while I bare through the pain lol. I recently found out I may have endometriosis and have a surgery scheduled for mid-March. I say may because of how it’s been worded by my doctors thus far.
I went in for a normal pap smear appointment in November (also my first one at 25) and my gyno said she could feel some fibroids so she wanted an ultrasound done. (The pap also came back clear) During my ultrasound they found a 12cm mass on my right ovary and a 6cm mass on my left. After getting an MRI they said they were complex and referred me to an oncologist for removal due to the size she wasn’t comfortable removing them herself. She said I was probably fine and that it is rare for it to be malignant but wanted to err on the side of caution. Fast forward to the end of January meeting with the oncologist and in her examination she also confirmed that it has all the characteristics of endometriosis and will go into the procedure with intent of completing it laparoscopically but she won’t know for sure until she goes in.
Just due to the wording thus far from my doctors I am unfortunately not too confident that it is “just” endometriosis and am worried for what what the future may hold. The oncologist did reassure me that she will make sure I leave the surgery with at least one ovary which is also a big concern. I just don’t really know what to do with myself because I am prone to thinking worse case scenario. I also do not have any family history of cancer besides some melanomas that my father had due to his jobs always being outdoors. Right now it feels like the only thing that will help ease the worry is to get through the surgery and get a definite answer after that but it feels like an eternity away and not much to ride on.
I wanted to see if anyone may have some insight or words of advice that could help ease my nerves some. I have never had an abdominal surgery or really any kind of surgery other than my wisdom teeth so I am not sure what to expect in any of this. Ex: recovery time and process and anything else that might be helpful knowing beforehand. I work an office job so I wasn’t that worried about the recovery time since I won’t be doing anything strenuous. TYIA!
