Are there any parents out there who have found home-schooling their autistic child has worked better then mainstream?
I have a 7yo who is currently at mainstream school. The first school had teachers that didnt believe in autism, told them they were just simply naughty, refusing food for them because they wouldnt sit with the rest of the kids during lunch, I would be completely ignored when I would voice my concerns...and so much more. Now they're at another school, where she doesnt have her own EA with the funding given to the school specifically for having them there and I personally dont see where that money would be going. I again find myself banging my head on the wall trying to communicate with the deputy principal, so I am trying to weigh up the options.
While I see the social interaction and structure of mainstream to be a good thing, I dont know if its worth it. With the emotional meltdowns, refusal to go to school because the work is too hard, overwhelmed at the thought of going to school at all for any part of it or the fact she would be getting bullied by other neuro typical kids.
Is home schooling something that would be beneficial?
