It’s a good thing the Prototype turned out this way.

SpoilerDiscussion

I know a lot of people won’t agree, and that’s perfectly fine. Personally, I’d rather have a charismatic antagonist with a theatrical personality and an odd, distinctive look than the version many were hoping for.

And honestly, the argument that he’s “not scary enough” doesn’t really hold up. This is Mascot Horror, a genre built on the tension between cute, marketable imagery and something unsettling, ambiguous, even tragic underneath. That duality is the whole point. I get the feeling people sometimes forget that and try to push the horror element to its most extreme form at all costs.

Before Chapter 5, I was only mildly curious about the Prototype. Nothing more.

Now I’m completely captivated.

He looks like he stepped straight out of a Tim Burton film, and I love that.

I genuinely feel for those who don’t connect with him, and I understand it. He’s a polarizing character. But I will always prefer a character with a clear artistic direction over something vague or exaggerated just to feel more horror, especially when it drifts away from what Mascot Horror is fundamentally about.
