Brick nextui not able to save new progres

hi bros and brodettes,

for a good while now I've been able to enjoy the original Brick. installed nextui on it 3 or so months ago. all good still.

but, I think after an os update, but im not exactly sure if the update was a cause, I am not able to save new progres anymore. for example in PSP games I hit save, it looks like it saves the state. but after a reboot, that saved state is gone. I checked for GBA also, and got the same problem.

I know there will be people asking if I used the crapshoot SD that came with it. I used new proper Kingston cards for this from a reputable seller.

I'm not really knowledgeable regarding this system, so I could be at fault, but I don't think I adjusted anything during this period.
