Dealing with sales agents when buying

Just curious what people's experiences are with estate agents when buying? I agreed to book a house some weeks ago based on information I was given during viewing. Turns out much of that information was wrong and all the agent did was apologise rather than incentivise me to proceed by including some flooring or whatever. So I pulled out. Now I've paid a booking deposit on another house and the developer/agent sent the contract the day after I booked in despite not including the house plans/specs, nor having the house design finalised, and telling me the house won't be ready for around six months (was originally told around four). And I haven't had any response to my queries in over a week. Poor communication from what seems like a reputable developer yet they expect me to sign a contract with a short timeframe.
