My one gripe with the story

I’ve been a Nikki player since Miracle Nikki. I’ve played Miracle, Shining, and now Infinity Nikki. And for the longest time I couldn’t pin down why I didn’t like the story of IN as much as I did the other games. Well, now I figured it out: the lack of reoccurring human characters.

It’s starting to feel like every region has their own “cute animal of the week” thing going on. Wishfield had the pieceys and the faewish sprites, and now Itzaland has the shroomlings. And when their portion of the story is over, they’re only given brief cameos. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last time we saw a piecey was during the Nikki birthday quests. Whenever we do a quest mostly following humans, it’s only for a temporary side event (think Danqing and Wanxiang). Back in the older games there was a cast of reoccurring human characters, and I liked to hear their stories overtime (my favorite being my man Caprico). Sure, we have Tan Youyou, Dada, Giovanni, and the rest. But none of them are shown enough to grant them a story overtime. They’re getting better at it, like Tan Youyou having a large presence during Wanxiang. I just hope it gets even better from here.
