Running and contact sports post op
I’m about 7 weeks post op with a previous 8+ months of nerve compression and doing pretty well! Walking at least 7000 steps a day, i took a long hike of around 7 miles with something like 1500 feet elevation gain/loss and didn’t feel any pain besides my usual unrelated knee issues. I’ve tried to jog for 15-20 seconds and I could feel a dull ache in my hip but it went away very quickly. I took a long drive (10 ish hours) and drove for a few hours at a time before switching and the pain was again just a general dull ache.
For anyone who returned to running and contact sports, what did that look like for you? I’m not rushing a return to rugby but my surgeon said that in the fall as long as I take my fitness very seriously and understand that one microdiscectomy means I’m likely to eventually need another But that professional football players return from this kind of surgery often. I’m 5’10” around 220 and trying to lose just a little more weight and 30 years old if that makes any difference.
