A Win for My SKs
I’ve been shouting from the rooftops that my SKs need therapy. My oldest has exhibited escalating behavioral issues that groundings and other punishments simply aren’t correcting. Both my SKs have been through a hell of a lot in the short time they’ve been on this earth:
- parents divorcing
- mom having a baby with a new man shortly after
- new man leaving
- new man coming back
- new man leaving for good
- dad had a medical emergency in front of kids
- mom with a different new man
- new man leaving
- new man coming back
- eldest SK left behind for a family vacation
- eldest SK learning about very adult things his mind likely could not process healthily
- new man leaving
- new man coming back
- new man leaving
- new man coming back
- moving to a new house
All the while, oldest kid’s behavior (mostly toward his mother) has been getting progressively worse, short of physical violence against her. Every incident, I feel like I’m preaching or nagging that these kids need to see a professional or they’re never going to grow to be mentally well adults. And every time my DH agrees but never brings it up with his ex.
Well FINALLY after oldest SK threw a tantrum in public and destroyed his mom’s belongings in the process, parents have decided to get him help.
It’s so frustrating because it shouldn’t have come to that. There were so many times these kids needed professional help and they never got it until suddenly the behavioral problems become public, destructive, and embarrassing.
But at least they’re finally going to get the help they’ve needed for years now.
