Sleep terrorists
TLDR - 5 year old husky and 2ish year old mal who previously slept through the night without issues are waking up nightly. help. Please. I need sleep.
Back story - we adopted a husky as a puppy and she was a sneaky ”I’m going to eat random things while you’re not looking” type. We crate trained for safety - sleeping in it overnight without issues.
fast forward, husky was 3.5 years old and we adopted a 7ish month old malamute. We also crate trained the mal to match. He was still potty training when we got him (rescued as a stray) which included random potty breaks 2a - 3a. He would wake up, whine and one of us would take both of them out to then go back to sleep.
fast forward again, everyone is potty and crate trained, sleeping through the night without issues and we’ve enjoyed a year-ish of good sleep.
The last 6 weeks or so - complete regression. One or both of them will whine between 2-3a, wake the other and us up - they go out and go back to sleep OR go to their water bowl, chug water to then lay back down. Almost every single night. We had not changed anything in their daily routines, or level of exercise/mental games etc. when this started.
We added a 2nd “last call” potty break at the end of the night to see if that would help but it hasn’t. Their crates are the right size (if not a lil big), cozy beds, a chew toy and a fresh bowl of water. They eat and drink throughout the day without issues, haven’t changed their eating routines etc. Clean vet bills within the last month (had to get annual shots). Any ideas?
