Are there any public swimming areas or summertime water-centered hotspots?

Transplant here from up north, hi. I noticed people here don’t really talk about going to the lakes or beaches. Is there anywhere in NoVa people go to hang out near water, swim, beach-like lakes, etc.? What are some good beaches nearby that aren’t all the way near Ocean City or beyond?
