In 2025, the overall pass percentage for CBSE students was around 88%, while ICSE reported an impressive pass rate of nearly 99%. This noticeable difference raises an important question: why is there such a gap between the two boards? Are students genuinely performing better in ICSE examinations, or are there structural and evaluation differences between the boards that influence the final results?
It makes me wonder whether ICSE students are academically better prepared due to differences in curriculum design, teaching methods, or assessment patterns. ICSE is often considered to have a more detailed and internally assessed academic structure, which may help students score higher overall. On the other hand, CBSE conducts exams on a much larger national scale with millions of students appearing every year, which could naturally affect the pass percentage.
Another question worth discussing is whether CBSE maintains stricter evaluation standards compared to ICSE, or if moderation policies differ between the two boards. Is the lower pass percentage simply a reflection of tougher marking and broader participation, or does CBSE intentionally avoid inflating results to maintain academic credibility?
So, are students actually performing better today, or are examination systems and evaluation approaches playing a bigger role in shaping these statistics? I’m curious to hear different perspectives on whether this difference reflects student performance, board policies, or exam difficulty levels.

Have you ever wondered why the CBSE Class 12 pass percentage is lower than ICSE?
