Mirrored Hi-Hat Help

Hello E drummers! Last year I had to sell my acoustic drums and buy and electric, ive been playing symmetrical for years and I've tried so many different set ups to have two hi-hats with my td-17, this is the closest I got:

Splitting the HH into the two hi hat pedals with a Y cable. It works mostly alright, but I cant play fast otherwise the pedals silence eachother if they get even the slight overlapping input.

My question is, is there a way to change the sensitivity of the pedals so the window of activation is shorter?
