Help us make our tiny village as great as possible to live in!
We’re a small company planning on building small rental houses, let’s call it a tiny village, in the village of Hakkas, Swedish Lapland — but we don’t want to decide everything ourselves. Before anything is built, we want to hear from you.
Our Greenstay houses are very much similar to an apartment, but equipped more like a house with a wood burning stove, your own private patio and your own yard, which you can use for your interests or relaxation. Our houses are beautifully located in the village with the arctic nature literally right outside your door!
This is a concept rendering, but the view outside is real!
Hakkas, the largest village in Gällivare municipality, already has great shared spaces: an indoor swimming pool with saunas, a community/festivity hall (bygdegård) with a wood-fired bakery oven, trails for skiing and snowmobiles, and local events that bring people together.
There is also a kindergarden and school for kids aged 6-16 in the village, as well as a grocery store, gas station and charging station for electric cars as well and also a pizzeria.

We want to make use of what already is and add and combine with what are missing, and we are curious on your take on how to make our Greenstay houses into a great place to live, so please share your thoughts on:
- What facilities or shared spaces would make a tiny village actually great to live in?
- What would you want to share with neighbors? We are thinking of adding a common facility house to the compound, like a toolshed of sorts, where there are shared tools for gardening, snow shoveling, play and such. But are we missing something?
- What is great living in a small house/apartment and what is missing? Where could the shared spaces of the village come in handy?
- What makes small communities thrive — and what tends to fail?
We’re interested in hearing what facilities you would want to have if you lived in a place like ours, both from you who dream of trying something new and also those with real lived experience.
Not polished plans — but honest ideas from people who have thought about how “shared life” can work in practice.
The Greenstay project is about testing a different way of living — small homes with low environmental impact, a space of your own, and a community that’s active and supportive. If you’ve lived in or imagined something like this, we want to hear your thoughts in the comments👇
TL;DR:
We’re building a tiny rental village in Swedish Lapland — but before we decide anything, we want your input.
If you were to live in a small house with nature outside your door…

(Serously — what would you add?)
