D840 - Died out of nowhere

I could really use some expertise as my D840 is currently a very large, very expensive paperweight. Everything was working fine, machine sat idle for about 10 days untouched, now nothing works.

Current setup:

  • Equipment is in my basement - fairly constant 66-70 degrees year round
  • D840 Power supply into surge strip
  • E-stop into surge strip
  • Spindle into surge strip
  • Surge strip unplugged when machine is not in use

Behavior:

  • As soon as there is power (surge strip turned on), the spindle starts running
  • UCCNC loads normally (it sees the controller as it does not default to demo mode)
  • UCCNC will not control the spindle
  • UCCNC will not control the gantry
  • UCCNC buttons - move X, move Y, move Z, Home All - the coordinates start moving in the software, but there is no physical movement on the D840
  • E-stop button does not stop spindle

When this problem first started, the LED on the D840 power brick would flicker when connected. Spoke to support and we assumed the power supply failed. It has been replaced and the machine's behavior the same (as described above).

I have sent this same information to support and am awaiting a response, but if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate any hints. I purchased this machine used about 8 months ago, so I don't have any documentation on wiring. I removed the cover over the main board and all connections appear tight with no loose wires.

I love this machine and I am SO frustrated. Thanks.
