My social anxiety is getting in the way of talking to my therapist
Ok, so I have severe social anxiety, and for the most part I’ve made a lot of progress with exposure therapy, but there’s one thing that I’m too anxious to even bring up with my therapist and I know I need to talk about it but I don’t know how. When it comes to bodily functions like farting and pooping, I just can’t talk about it because I’m afraid others will imagine me doing those things and somehow that makes me human and that’s like, not ok or something? I don’t know. For example, I used to be really embarrassed by people seeing my breath in the cold air, but I’m pretty much over that now. But it’s similar to that. I just don’t know how to talk to my therapist about it cuz it’s like I’m revealing to him that I have bowel movements. Like he didn’t already know that. Anyway, it feels like too much too talk to him about it, but I know I should if I ever want to get over this. Any advice? Does anyone have similar experiences?
