Does artillery strip armor from tanks?

After realizing yesterday in deadlands that dive bombers not only 100% pen with a high chance to disable a subsystem but also heavily strip your armor with each hit I found myself curious, since Artillery rounds always pen do they also strip armor? I've sat in artillery fire for what seems like hours before and never noticed any changes in armor. I think mortar rounds do?
