How do you cope with a mind-numbing job?

Serious Replies Only

A death in the family recently has led me to reevaluate a few things, and added to an already growing feeling of “I want to do more! Life is for living!”

The trouble is, my job is so terribly dull. I find it almost impossible to park those thoughts of wanting to do anything else. Even though I can say to myself that the job pays for the things outside work, I find it so hard to get any enthusiasm for my work. I’m in a very niche sector and too old/dependant on a salary to quit and retrain.

So I’m asking for advice. If your job is crap, or boring, or not what you want to be doing, how do you cope with that? How do you “just get on with it” when your brain won’t even let you knuckle down, even though you really want to?

A little context - I’m in my forties, have suffered lifelong depression and anxiety and terribly low self esteem. I suspect I’m neurodivergent too. Please be kind!
