Advice on choosing skate ski boots please
I'm a beginner at skate skiing. I was recently given some rossignol skate skis and I need to choose boots. I have a narrow heel but am average width at toes. I don't think the perfect pair exists, so I need to prioritise. I have tried on:
Rossignol boots (much too wide)
Madshus race speed skate boots (fairly good width but harsh on the heel and my toes hit the front if I bend the toes as if stepping. These are flexible and do bend at the toes)
Salomon s max skate mv. (these feel good but my heel rides up when stepping. They are much stiffer than the pair above.
I have been recommended to try Fischer carbonlight skate. This is probably above my budget but I might stretch to it. I have to go on a mission to find some.
I'm in Norway and it's hard to find stuff in stock. Internet shopping is much less available than many places. I'm size 41 (f) but often find this is sold out. I started looking in early Jan. I'm not in Norway all the time (live in England), which makes it harder to find stuff.
My question is: What is most important for beginner skate ski boots?
- heel not moving?
- snug width fitting?
- toes not hitting the front of the boot?
- should a beginner have stiff shoes?
What is worth paying extra for?
Keen to hear from experienced skate skiiers!
Thanks!
