Is one of these better than the other?

Looking at 50 amp to 30 amp adapters. I see one of these is "space saving" and the other is a regular dogbone. Is one better than the other? Or, is it just personal preference? I will need to plug my 30 amp surge protector into this and then my trailer power cord.
