Is buying a 2022 laptop still worth it? (Germany // max. 850€ // Student)
Hi together!
I‘m a german student in Event Management & Technology and need a laptop for CAD programs, mostly Vectorworks.
Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
- 850,- € max, Germany
Are you open to refurbs/used?
- Yes, refurbs
How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
- Good performance/price ratio, good build quality, no 2-in-1
How important is weight and thinness to you?
- Not really, just needs to be somewhat carryable
Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
- Ideally 13-15 (+/- 1) inches
Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
- Vectorworks (doesn‘t need to run incredibly smoothly, it‘s enough if it runs okay-ish)
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
- I‘m not planning on using it for gaming
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
- Relatively good keyboard/touchpad // USB-C data port
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
- I have found some Laptops (mostly ThinkPads and HP ZBooks) online that in theory fit my needs quite well (intel i7 11.gen, 32 GB RAM, 4 GB VRAM, 512 GB SSD, 750-850,-€). However, I am not sure if it‘s a good idea to buy a laptop that is not „the newest“ anymore - can someone assure me here?
