Is a medical career worth pursuing? (As a closeted queer person, dropper for NEET UG)
I'm not sure if this is the right sub to be asking this in, but I'm hoping atleast some of you would have something so say regarding this. If you're homophobic or transphobic, please ignore this post. If you're homophobic or transphobic, please ignore this post and refrain from commenting.
myquals: CBSE 10th (91%), State Board 12th (95.6%)
I (18F) currently am studying for NEET UG 2026, I'm a dropper (Did my 12th in 2025). I'm in a confused state atm, regarding my career choice, after quite a bit of looking through I've realized I'm probably picking one of the worst careers for a queer person in India. I kept ignoring thinking of it in regard to my sexuality because I kept thinking "why should I shift my career because of my sexuality". But recently I've also come to the realization that I might possibly be trans or non-binary at the very least, and that I'd like to look more queer-presenting , this obviously as I've read online and seen is nearly impossible in medschool its either that, or being an outcast (which honestly I don't think I can take). The only medschool I've seen that is inclusive is KMC, but that's way out of my range. I simply cannot afford it. With my current state of preparation (Was scoring in 450s before, now dropped to 300s) and given my low state cutoff at the very best I might make it to a peripheral GMC in my state or a private college. What I'm questioning is that, if I can even survive it? because peripheral GMCs in my state are quite far away and the crowd I'm scared about, plus I've never lived anywhere else than home (I live in a teir 1 city)
Something to note: I also might want to medically transition my gender in the future (to male)
This is one of my biggest concerns because even if there's a possibility for this, I would want to be in a decent place (a college that isn't outrightly hostilie to this)
I've also previously considered other career options such as, biotech, psychology, design. But dropped them due to specific reasons with each.
