Is Glyph of Jab Working Correctly?

It says that it makes your Monk use their weapon instead of attacking with their hand when using palm strike, but when I applied this to my Monk, it just kinda looks like he back-hands the enemy instead of actually striking with the weapon I have equipped.

Did I maybe misunderstand what the glyph was saying?
