Scotland trip suggestions/advice

I am planning a trip to Scotland in October of 2026. I am hoping for some community input on courses, logistics, and general recommendations.

The plan is to fly in to EDI and then drive to Aberdeen. The weekend of our arrival is the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship which will close St. Andrew's Old and New courses, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns to the public until Monday the 5th.

In Aberdeen for two days - Murcar and Cruden Bay for sure. If we want to do 36 are there suggestions for additional courses? Is Royal Aberdeen worth the money? Peterhead? Others?

Next the plan is to go to to St. Andrews for four days of golf. I am thinking of doing Old Course 48 hour lottery and the New Course as must plays, and then leaving two days open. Would Castle course be recommended or should we branch off the final two days and try to play Elie, Crail, Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, etc?

I am not necessarily opposed to stacking up 36 hole days to hit more courses during our time there. Will there be decent enough daylight? Also, what can I expect for weather the first week of October?
