Mercury (Budha) governs intellect, communication, business, accounts, memory, logic, speech, travel, documentation, analysis, and technology. When this planet begins to move apparently backward from Earth’s perspective—called Vakri gati—its energies intensify, turning inward and becoming more introspective.

According to Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, a planet in retrograde motion becomes:

Strong like an exalted planet,

Intense in its significations,

Often unpredictable in delivering results,

Prone to giving karmic lessons.

This makes Mercury Retrograde a period of both challenges and hidden opportunities.
