buying and flipping social media pages is the most boring money i've ever made
Been doing this on and off for like 3 years now and honestly it's the most braindead income stream I have
Here's the process in a nutshell:
- Find pages on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok that are dead or semi-dead but have real followers in a specific niche (fitness, pets, finance, memes, whatever).
- These are pages where the owners lost interest, stopped posting, and just want to get rid of them.
- Buy these pages cheap. Like stupid cheap sometimes. For example, I picked up a 40k follower Instagram page in the dog niche for $120 last month. The guy hadn't posted in 8 months.
- Then you revive the page. Post consistently for 2-4 weeks using scheduled content (I use Later or Buffer, nothing fancy).
- Engagement comes back faster than you'd think, especially on Instagram Reels and TikTok.
Once the page looks alive again, you have options:
- Flip it for 3-5x what you paid on marketplaces like Fameswap or Socialtradia
- Monetize it yourself with affiliate links, shoutouts, or dropshipping products
- Use it as a traffic source for your own projects
Key tips to keep in mind:
- Buy in niches where brands actually spend money: pet stuff, skincare, gym, cooking
- Stay away from generic meme pages unless they're huge because nobody wants to buy those anymore
- Biggest mistake is buying pages with fake followers. Always check the engagement rate before buying. For example, if a 50k follower page only gets 12 likes per post, that’s a dead giveaway.
Not gonna pretend this will make you rich, but it’s consistent and low effort once you get the hang of spotting deals. I usually net around $800-1500/month from this and spend maybe 4-5 hours a week on it total.
Sometimes, not everything needs to be some revolutionary AI SaaS play. Sometimes the boring stuff just works.
