Mordred the Prince of Nothing : What Philosophy Shapes a Man Built for Emptiness?

Fan Art

For Mordred his philosophy it's obvious just his True name prince of nothing can refer to two famous philosophy Machiavelism and nihilism

  1. first part (nothing )

First a little introduction to nihilism :

It's the view that life has no inherent meaning, value, or objective truth

  • It denies any purpose to existence
  • It rejects absolute moral truths, seeing them as human inventions
  • It often leads either to despair or to a sense of radical freedom where you create your own values

But saying that Mordred is a nihilist is technically not right, Mordred philosophy is absurdism

Absurdism definition :

It is the view that humans naturally seek meaning, but the universe offers none, creating a permanent tension between our need for purpose and the world’s indifference. It isn’t about giving up, it’s about recognizing this clash and choosing to live, act, and create in spite of the absurd

And that's what Mordred , yes he always identity himself as nihil (nothing) , but he seek meaning in life he don't want to die he wants to live to ascend, to take revenge even when he lost his revenge he Still cling to life , unlike his father who completely abandoned himself to nihilism and pessimism, for nothing matter and nothing have a sense

  1. second part (Prince )

Mordred second philosophy is Machiavelism

Little definition:

Machiavelli’s philosophy is a pragmatic, power‑focused view of politics that treats ruling as an art of survival rather than a moral calling. It centers on how power actually works, not how it should work

The core of Machiavelism philosophy are :

  • Politics is about results, not ideals. A
  • Human nature is self‑interested
  • It is safer to be feared than loved
  • The ends can justify the means

I think it's pretty clear how Mordred embody Machiavel ideology perfectly in every one of his actions , Machiavel Says that a prince should discard empathy with is Mordred flaw , his personality disorder just make his core ideology more powerful

  1. the prince of nothing

After diving in Mordred character we can see why he is so powerful and dangerous he embody two philosophy that became more extraordinary fussing together

Machiavelism + absurdism ( prince of nothing) :

  1. What the fusion looks like at its core :
  • Life is meaningless (Absurdism) the universe offers no purpose, no moral order, no guarantees

  • Power is real (Machiavellianism)

human behavior is driven by fear, ambition, and self‑interest

  • Meaninglessness frees you (Absurdism) since nothing is predetermined, you can act without metaphysical guilt

  • Strategy is survival (Machiavellianism) you navigate human systems with clarity, realism, and adaptability

2)How the two philosophies reinforce each other

  • Absurdism removes moral constraints and Machiavellian realism becomes easier to accept

  • Machiavellianism provides a concrete arena a way to act meaningfully inside an absurd universe

  • Both reject illusions , one rejects cosmic meaning, the other rejects moral idealism

  • Both demand lucidity , seeing the world as it is, not as you wish it to be

This fusion produces a person who is:

  • emotionally detached from cosmic expectations
  • strategically engaged with human systems
  • unburdened by guilt or metaphysical hope
  • committed to action despite absurdity

This fusion of Machiavellianism and Absurdism creates a worldview where the world has no inherent meaning, so you play the game of power lucidly, strategically, and without illusion

That's why Mordred is one of the best character in shadow slave ( despite the off screen and fraud allegations) but as a reader you cannot hate character who is so well written

The valor family embody this theme related to nihilism as :

Mordred ( absurdism)

Anvil ( pessimism)

definition:

Pessimism in philosophy is the view that the world is fundamentally negative, that suffering outweighs happiness, and that existence may even be worse than non‑existence , this goes far beyond everyday negativity , it's funny that pessimism consider the world worse than nothing ( Mordred) , and it explains why even anvil as shade doesn't really differ from him as a human he was already dead , forging for death endlessly like a machine makes him more happy that living

[ Morgan ( I have no idea if anyone wants to make her profile psychology be my guest, it a character that I don't really Care about maybe that why, I tried to think about something but I Don't know, I could bullshit her some philosophy but it will not be right to do that , i think it will drag down the quality of the post , so yeah if anyone wants to say anything about her , I am all ears ]
