Much PvP and Third‑Party Chaos
Don’t get me wrong, I love the concept of Marathon. The atmosphere, the visuals, the identity it’s trying to carve out… all of that is fantastic, and it’s exactly the kind of extraction shooter I want to get into.
That said, the PvP is way too dominant right now, to the point where it doesn’t feel like a real extraction shooter experience. There’s barely any room to explore, loot, or build tension before you’re thrown into nonstop gunfights.
For example: yesterday in Algae Pond, my partner and I wiped seven players in about four minutes… only to get instantly third‑partied by a third team less than five minutes into the match. It’s constant chaos, not tactical extraction.
I enjoy PvP, I’m not new to extraction shooters, but Marathon currently leaves no breathing room for scavenging, repositioning, or actually extracting with the loot you worked for. The PvP pressure is so overwhelming that it overshadows everything else the game is trying to offer.
To put it simply: the PvP itself is fine, but the balance feels off, and I think the game would benefit from a serious adjustment to player density, pacing, or spawn distribution to make each deployment on Tau Ceti IV feel more like an extraction shooter and less like a battle royale deathmatch.
I’d really like to hear what others think. Are you experiencing the same thing?
