Weird sounding bit in Earth song?

At round 1:24 when MJ sings the ascending "This crying earth, these weeping shores", does that sound a little weird to anyone else? Everytime i listen to it, that part always throws me off. MJ is singing the first 5 notes of the d sharp/e flat minor scale, while the accompanying instruments are playing a d sharp/e flat major chord.

I see no one else mentioning this... is this just me?
