Conversion disorder

Do people with conversion disorder have any insight? I just did a UWorld psych block. One of the vignettes was about a young woman who experiences sudden weakness in her legs. In the ER she’s observed standing up from a sitting position without issues. I’m just wondering how can a person believe that they have leg weakness while at the same being able to move without issues. The conversion disorder involving blindness is even more bizarre. People truly believe they are blind… but at the same time they can see (which is evident by the fact that they move around without stumbling over various objects). I will be honest and admit that I feel skepticism when I encounter vignettes about conversion disorder. It’s something I have to work on as a future physician.
