Where does the wwx & canibalism theories came from?

The Burial Mounds are basically a mass grave and eating corpses from there would be like insta-death specially given how weak he was back then (between the core transfer and the fall, he probably had broken bones)

I blame the donghua picturing the place like Mordor, but in the novel and the Untamed it seems to be more normal and the truly dangerous things are resentful ghosts and corpses.
