Got sick of messy roster spreadsheets and salary guessing, so I’m building a dedicated app for FIFO workers. Need your brutal feedback! ⚒️

G'day everyone,

I’ve been working on a side project recently and wanted to run the idea past the people who actually live the lifestyle.

It feels like managing a FIFO life is way harder than it needs to be. Between tracking your swing, trying to sync your roster with your partner so they know when you're actually awake, and wondering if your current day rate is actually competitive in 2026, it’s a lot of mental load.

So, I’m building a clean, simple web app called FIFOS.life. The goal is to be a single hub that actually understands the "split-life" mentality.

Here is what I’m building into it so far:

  • The "Split-Life" Roster: A clean calendar that explicitly toggles between "On-Site" and "R&R". It auto-calculates countdowns so you (and your family) can see exactly when you're back.
  • Know Your Worth (2026 Salary Data): A visual gauge where you put in your role and see if you are being underpaid compared to the current industry average.
  • A Mentoring Hub for Greenies: A spot where graduates or people trying to break into the industry can book a 15-minute chat with senior engineers/tradies to get their resume reviewed or get honest advice on site life.

I’m currently putting the final touches on the design (going for a very clean, dark-mode look so it’s easy to read on your phone after a 12-hour shift).

But before I write any more code, I’d love your brutal honesty:

  1. Does this sound genuinely useful to you?
  2. What is the absolute biggest headache you have right now when it comes to managing your roster or your swing?
  3. For the seniors—would you actually be open to jumping on a quick paid call to mentor a grad?

If anyone wants to see the early preview or be a beta tester, let me know! Cheers.
