I built a Chrome extension that automates Government of Canada job applications

I'm an economist at the Canadian federal government. If you've never applied to a government job in Canada, count yourself lucky — each posting makes you answer 8-12 "screening questions" proving you have the experience, in a specific WHEN/WHERE/HOW format. One posting I applied to had 11 of these things. Took me over 4 hours for one application. I finally snapped and built something.

ApplySmith is a Chrome extension that reads your resume and generates all your screening answers, tailored resumes, and cover letters for Government of Canada job postings.

How it works:

  • Upload your resume once
  • Go to any government job posting
  • Hit "Generate All Answers" — it matches your actual experience to each question in the right format

The part I'm most proud of: it won't make things up. If you don't have the experience, it tells you honestly instead of fabricating something that could get you disqualified.

Pricing:

  • Free: 5 uses/month
  • Pro: $20/month (25 uses)
  • Premium: $50/month (unlimited)

For context, the only competitor I've found charges $179 for 5 manually-written answers and takes 24 hours. This is free and instant.

The niche is small but the pain is real, 300K+ federal employees and pretty much everyone hates the application system. Still early and actively improving it based on feedback.

Would love to hear what you think.
