Living in a holiday home?
Does anyone have experience living in an estate of holiday homes where about 40% are occupied full-time? It's a beach town that has a decent bit of tourism in the summer.
It’s an 85m² semi-detached bungalow (2bd/2bth), built in the early 2000s, in a town of around 15,000 people. It’s centrally located, about a 10 minute walk to the sea and 10 minutes into town.
There are plenty of parking spots right outside the door, though there are no permits or assigned spaces. Maintenance fees are ~€90 per month, which covers bins and communal maintenance.
The area has very little availability, and we’re in quick need of a house with a baby coming in July. We would be buying in cash.
The property is currently zoned for holiday use only and doesn’t officially permit full-time living. However, both the estate agent and our solicitor have said the local council has been ignoring this and doesn’t seem to have any plans to enforce it.
Too risky?
We also have family living nearby (we’ve been staying with them for the last four months), so we could potentially keep a few bills sent there as a plausible main address and “holiday” at the house 350 days a year or something.
We like the house and the estate, but still unsure about buying in a "holiday estate. But with the market the way it is, we don't have much of a choice it seems.
