Adressing the known issues with Lingyang's kit! (a lot of words)
Please, be it a mod or an average person, if you read this: I don't aim towards spreading negativity, but to raise the overall awareness.
This will be a bit chaotic since I am genuinely overwhelmed every time I write something like this, my brain is kinda overstimulated.
I recently posted a video where Lingyang clears the 4th floor of the central part of ToA.
One person mentioned that the rotation is very fast and takes only 24 seconds, however 3 of them is a SLOW Lampylumen Myriad. Kuro keep making super niche and restrictive echo sets, Carlotta's sonata set isn't that good for Lingyang.
With the addition of Tune break it became even worse, after casting the animation, Lingyang is far away enough from the mob to miss the first Lampylumen hit which he needs to gain buffs.
Furthermore, Luuk stays mid-air while casting the tune break animation, Brant returns to the mid air state, but Lingyang is forced to leave his forte state??
Almost every single character in the game benefitted from new echo sets like Empyream Anthem (Yuanwu, Zhezhi, Mortefi, Yinlin) or from the addition of the Nightmare echoes, be it Calcharo, Xiangli Yao ir Jiyan. Danjin also got a small upgrade, and got some nice partners.
Lingyang, who needed an upgrade in the face of the Nigtmare echo probably the most, didn't receive it at all.
Zhezhi was one of the few good users of the Hecate echo, and Empyrean was already a minor buff for her, but Kuro still made a Nightmare lampylumen just for her. Frosty Resolve and Empyrean Sonata sets, buffs Glacio damage and coordinated attacks, THANK YOU KURO.
It is a fact that Lingyang is designed to deal equally good damage with his Resonance skill and Basic attacks, his low multipliers are compensated with 50% Glacio damage bonus from his ultimate, but here is the issue: you still want 3 cost Glacio for some reason, and you still can't really benefit from 44111.
At least Kuro learnt their mistakes and don't make characters having a damage profile so spread out between different types of damage.
That is his advantage and a disadvantage at the same time: He can utilize the buffs of different supports or event buffs, but at the same time he won't make a full use of them.
Freezing Frost is supposed to be his signature set, but in comparison original Fusion set or Aero set give their best users (Jiyan, Changli) more than Freezing Frost gives to Lingyang. And that's because he already gives himself a lot.
I think it won't be an exaggeration if I say that Kuro just refuse to give him anything, and the logic is pretty simple. Lingyang still has the most potential out of 1.x cast, if we ever get even one of the 3 things (good weapon, echo set or dedicated support for aerial attackers) he already will be MILES better.
Note, that I don't want him to be on a meta level, would be completely fine if they AT THE VERY LEAST fixes the most obvious flaws like interations with the hitboxes!!!
Even When his 6 (SIX!!) Sequences give a total, ENORMOUS increase of 35% from S0, giving him S2 Shorekeeper gives him a chance to compete with S0 Carlotta.
And btw, for S5 the difference is like around 18% with S0. Since day 1 I lost 7 times, I can't imagine 6 of them being Lingyang and he is still very much mid and S0 Encore with Lupa will probably be even a bit better.
Like please, I believe that players shouldn't be punished that hard for losing a 50/50, I don't say they have to be meta level on S6, but it's also bad when you lose 3-4 times in a row, decides to check his sequnces and they are just a complete scam.
Alright, since we are talking about sequences: They are a total joke
Usually, the increase for an event unit is 200% or more ( something like x2.2 more damage compared to S0)
what this this thing is supposed to do? buff Sanhua or Zhezhi? Or perhaps Baizhi?
All Lingyang mains will say that having his S6 built in would fix a lot
I get why people don't want to use Lingyang, because it's simply not worth unless he is S6, and it's not the same for Encore, Jianxin or Calcharo.
Calcharo is a bit better if you sweat, and he can Fully utilize Lynae buffs, Jianxin is pretty good in her niche at S2 and has characters like Aemeth or Iuno to support. Encore has a plenty of teams and overall is the most comfortable standart dps to use.
Lingyang? Kuro just slap you with 10 energy on 2nd sequence, and some minor interruption resistance increase on S1
Imagine losing to him 4 times, to discover that S3 has a difference of 4 PERCENT with S0, wow, so powerful!
At least he can chase after enemies right? At least he has a consistent dps, which helps him with parrying? righttttt! And it's pretty random, one time Scar, DRAGON OF DIRGEEE or Feilian Beringal pinches you to the ground forcing you to leave the forte state, the other time it's okay.
Like, Dragon of Dirge is a pure Nightmare, it's probably 50\50 chance that you will get stuck under his arm or belly and will be piched to the ground.
Oh well, but he can at least avoid the groud attacks? Yeaaaah, sometimes, because of the weird hitboxes of those attacks! Thanks Kuro!
Kuro once oficially promised to fix him and Jianxin.
Lingyang has so may interesting features, there are so many ways to fix him directly or not, have Kuro even done a proper testing before releasing the game? His gameplay is still pretty unique and cool, so many details like staying on field for 8 seconds while being in combat, or climbing the walls!
Carlotta is lowkey Lingyang pro max, her ultimate isn't so restricted by time, but more by the amount of shots, she can keep the distance freeze enemies, and oh well, she even otmatched him in such non obvious thing like a single hit outro (Lingyang had the strongest single hit outro before she was released)
While his S1 allows to face tank a lot of hits, if you get interrupted you will still be kicked out of the forte state, and while you can dodge in it, it's still a dps loss.
Lingyang was always pretty good in WhiWa, even half a year ago he could score 5k+ points. Now that WhiWa is a dps check his consistent and spread out damage does nothing, because the elite mob can have like 400k hp and it's a dps check for the finest and shiniest units (it's not like it's bad for the game, my problem is Lingyang was good at least somewhere, but they still had to nerf him)
Lingyang represents a very interesting part of the Chinese culture, his whole character is centered around luck, he has a unique model and appearance... And it all is such a waste, no art for the Chinese new year, nothing. And the fact that he is the first non-human resonator, there is some lore potential too.
Despite all his flaws like spread out damage profile and stuff, he still performs well enough to clear any available content. As I said he has SO MUCH potential, but it's just wasted.
Also, the fact that he is a pure hypercarry type of dps doesn't help either, while there exist some advanced techniques and quickswap is possible, but very hard, it's just not worth it.
