Why does he want to say in contact when i’ve made it clear of what i want and my boundaries ? 21F 22M
So here’s the situation. There’s this guy (22M) I’ve been talking to (21F) we weren’t officially anything, but it was clear he liked me and mutual friends had also said he had confessed that he liked me to them. We would message throughout the WHOLE day, play iMessage games, and even hang out on FaceTime for hours while doing our work. He even walked me home once too. A lot of the time, he was initiating contact and our conversations . He would also communicate when he’s busy and can’t talk. Oh and don’t forget about the good morning texts. Honestly, it felt like we were really close, even though it wasn’t a relationship.
Then i asked where is this going, because i genuinely hate being in a grey zone. He said he couldn’t do a relationship and that he didn’t really know what “this” was. I accepted it the first time, i didn’t argue i just said okay and left it at that. After that call ended, he called me again 10 minutes later and i didn’t pick up. I had nothing else to say and i told him that before i ended it. I set clear boundaries by not contacting him again and blocking him because I didn’t want to stay in a grey area.
We hadn’t talked for a few weeks and all of our mutuals kept asking if we will talk and yes i liked him and was upset with the situation, but i was genuinely fine with not talking again. The thing is everyone kept asking me, it’s not like i went out of my way to talk about him or our situation. I accepted it for what it was the first time and my boundary was to not talk again. And i thought that’s what he wanted too , since he said stuff like he didn’t want to waste my time and that he doesn’t know what this is.
So, everyone was telling me to hear out what he had to say because he liked me and said that he didn’t mean it like that and so i unblocked him and coincidentally, he messaged me and asked if we could talk later. So then we called and he apologised for what happened and how it made me feel and then he asked how i’ve been and what not and we caught up a bit. Basically reopening a door that he shut. I didn’t care for an apology, because when the called ended, it was still this grey area that i never asked for in the first place. I was fine with never talking again because when he told me the first time, that was my closure and clarity.
so i had to call again asking him to stop beating around the bush and what the apology was for, because I didn’t need it. I asked what do you want from this, just to be friends or something further and he said just friends. He’s completely valid for what he wants out of this; but my boundary was i don’t want to speak again UNLESS we are actually just friends and that would mean no more daily messaging, no good morning texts, etc just basically keeping it simple and platonic. He was reluctant on stopping those things. So, I said my boundary is that we can be civil but we don’t have to talk and that’s what i want out of this.
The thing is, he keeps reaching out and overthinking our interactions. He called two hours after I set the boundary, just to ask a small question that could have been a text. He’s reluctant to fully respect the boundaries I’ve set. He asks about talking during lectures and seems concerned about staying in contact.
He has other friends, so he doesn’t need me as a friend. But he clearly still thinks about the situation and about me, even though he says he doesn’t want anything more. I’m tired of being in this grey area where he wants access and connection without defining what he actually wants.
I want clarity: either friendship with clear boundaries, or nothing at all. I’m done giving emotional energy without clarity.
what does everyone think of this situation? I need some advice please
