How is Tunnock’s tea cake a tea cake?

Let me just preface by saying how delicious Tunnock’s tea cakes are. That being said, how exactly are they tea cakes?

It’s not a cake. Nor does it seem like something you can have with your tea? Not very dunkable, is it?

Plus it’s milk chocolate and marshmallow fluff and a bit of biscuit at the bottom. By itself it’s grand, but with a cup of tea? It just seems odd? Ginger nut or custard cream or heck even digestives make more sense with tea, they’re not overpowering enough by themselves and so you pair them with tea and they’re lovely and perfect. But tunnock’s tea cakes? I could eat them by themselves, don’t even need the tea. In fact, tea would sort of ruin the experience a bit. It’s like having tea with a chocolate bar, doesn’t quite make sense?

How do you really have a Tunnock’s tea cake? Is it meant to be consumed alongside a nice cup of tea or is the tea just there in the name and you normally just gobble it up as you go? Please do tell, got some Tunnock’s tea cakes waiting for me. Thank you very much!
