I tried voice shopping and I'm lowkey converted
Context: A couple weeks ago I commented on a thread saying voice shopping was "gimmicky" and "nobody actually talks to their phone to shop."
I was wrong. Kind of.
So my friend's been testing this new shopping app (still in beta, they're launching soon) and convinced me to try it.
I was skeptical AF. Like, I'm not going to sit on the metro and say "Alexa, find me a shirt" like some tech bro.
But here's what actually happened:
I was driving back from work, stuck in Silk Board traffic (iykyk), and suddenly remembered I have my cousin's engagement next week.
Usually I'd:
- Forget about it again
- Remember at 11 PM
- Spend 2 hours browsing
- Give up
- Panic-buy something the day before
Instead, I just… sent a voice note to the app while I was driving:
"I need something for my cousin's engagement. It's in Mysore so pretty traditional crowd. I'm thinking kurta-pajama, maybe in maroon or navy. Budget is around 5-6K. Nothing too flashy."
By the time I got home (45 min later), it had a bunch of options saved for me.
Here's what surprised me:
- It actually understood "traditional crowd" meant no experimental stuff
- It filtered out sherwanis (too flashy for an engagement)
- It kept the search saved, so I could scroll through later without re-doing everything
I ended up using text to refine things ("take out the ones with too much embroidery"), but the voice part actually saved me like an hour of setup.
Still not perfect (some results were off), but honestly? Way better than spending my evening clicking 47 filters.
I'm not saying I'm going to voice-shop for everything now. But for those moments when you're driving/cooking/busy and suddenly remember you need to buy something? Game changer.
Anyone else tried this kind of thing or am I late to the party
