How to know when seton has been there long enough?
I had a seton back in December. When it was done the surgeon said it would be reassessed in 6-8 weeks with a view to remove it around that same time if all was going well. I later got the date of my appointment and they had scheduled it for May, which led to me complaining and asking them to bring it forward (I didn’t want to wait longer than necessary if it wasn’t needed, given the surgeon had already told me it would be 2 months).
Following my complaint they brought the procedure forward to March 17th, and in the meantime I’ve had a colonoscopy and MRI, both of which seem ed good and didn’t display any issues.
The surgeon is set to remove the seton on schedule in March and likely perform a LIFT or FLAP procedure along with it to hopefully treat the fistula. I just wanted to check with others if I’m being too optimistic with this time frame? I want more than anything g to be healed and never deal with this again so is it reasonable to expect the seton to have done its job by now? Or have I risked it by pushing to remove it sooner? The surgeon initially said that delay was just a matter of scheduling and being booked up and not really indicative of how long I actually need the seton for. So am I right to feel a bit hopeful and pray this will be the end of it
