When did comment sections become competitions?

I just saw a post where two people were fighting about problems faced by men and women. Neither of them had actual data. Both were extremely confident. Both kept throwing around stats like facts without any sources.

It made me just tired. Comment sections don’t feel like discussions anymore. They feel like battles where the only goal is to win. It’s just defend your side, dismiss the other, and move on.

What bothers me most is that the people who are actually facing serious issues aren’t sitting in comment sections. They’re quietly dealing with it. Meanwhile the loudest voices online sound the most certain.

I don’t know what the solution is. I just wish conversations felt less like competitions and more like actual attempts to understand each other.
