This game is pretty good
Never played an extraction shooter. Haven't played an FPS game in like 10 years. Haven't played with voice coms or gone hunting for a trio in random discords pretty much ever. 34 year old gamer here.
But holy hell this game rules. There is constant tension. The sound design is freaking unreal. The gear pressure is just a positive IDC what people say about wanting more health packs and ammo packs littering the map.
I don't feel there is a lack of excitement. Played several rounds of Permitter last night and didn't leave a single map without a PvP fight. People are hunting each other now. I got jumped and I swear either the crew was doing the same quest or camping my quest spot. Maybe both? And then the next map we got the jump on guys in Hauler once we figured out they were on the floor above us. Great stuff.
I've been playing Path of Exile for a long time now and for me this is the perfect mix of hardcore/roguelike RPG mechanics and FPS. All gear drops on death really makes you feel defeat but also rewards victory.
I do admit gear needs better tooltips, the menus to find quests and factions took some getting used too, but its a brand new game and they're (hoping) we have the patience to stick around and play this game for hundreds or thousands of hours. None of this will feel new on launch and after a few seasons it'll be muscle memory. I just really hope we can get enough players to stick around because I can see this game being a lot of fun.
