Is Rogue or Mage better for PvP?

I'm wondering what is the better option between the two, assuming they are skilled and fully geared. How would you compare the matchup spread between the two?

I played Rogue in Classic Anniversary. Super fun but it kinda felt like everyone beat my ass (mostly cuz I suck) but sometimes it felt like I couldn't do anything, like if a hunter opened on me I was just dead.

Mage on the other hand seems more reliable where if someone opens on you you can still win.

I want a class where I feel like I can still win no matter the class/situation I am facing. I don't want to NEED an opening in order to win.

So which is better?
