I built an open-source self-hosted WhatsApp inbox for teams — Tercela
Been working on this and figured I'd share — Tercela is an open-source,
self-hosted WhatsApp Business inbox for teams.
Basically if you've ever dealt with WhatsApp Cloud API you know the pain —
webhooks, Meta verification, template management, media handling... it's a
lot. And the existing tools are either expensive per-conversation SaaS or
half-baked OSS projects.
So I built this:
- Shared team inbox with real-time messaging (WebSocket)
- Full WhatsApp Cloud API support (send/receive, media, templates)
- Template sync with Meta
- Contact management + agent assignment
- S3-compatible media storage
- Multi-language UI (EN, ES, AR, HI, ID, TR)
Tech stack: Hono + Bun, Nuxt 4, PostgreSQL + Drizzle ORM
Spin it up in 3 commands:
git clone https://github.com/tags-dev/tercela
cd tercela && cp .env.example .env
docker compose up -d
Frontend at localhost:3000, API docs at localhost:3333/docs
It's still early — WhatsApp only for now but the architecture supports
adding more channels (email, webchat, etc).
Would love to hear what you guys think. What's missing? What would make
this actually useful for you?
