37. Have only worked remotely for 14 years, fell into my self-employed career, but want to transition. Problem is my network collapsed after health problems. I feel daunted.
Like the title says I have worked only remotely for my entire career. I have worked as a consultant for small and midsize businesses writing software and redesigning system architecture. I am also hired by other agencies when they get overly complex client requests that aren't really something they want to deal with. My degree was in business management I just picked up writing software along the way and it helped having a business degree because when a client came to me with an issue I could approach it from a different way and try to solve it as a practical matter, not just a software solution.
It all kind of just happened after picking up a few odd jobs after college that snowballed into a livlihood. I never had to make a resume and was bad about polishing professional facing anything. In 14 years I have met 1 client in person because they were on vacation in my city and we had lunch. This worked and was good to me, but things fell apart a few years ago for health reasons and the house of cards came crashing down. Now I'm trying to step back to my original degree a bit, but the problem is my work history doesn't translate well and I have no in-office experience.
I was thinking business analyst, but wanted to hear thoughts. Also hoping to hear from anyone who might have taken the plunge from long term self-employment to working for a company. Tips for how to frame my resume always welcome. Thanks for reading.
