bank statement for travel

hello. i was going to apply for uni in china. right now i am currently doing my undergrad in london, however im fine doing it again. however can somebody give me reality check.

my passport expired, and apparently you need 6 month of legitimacy before travelling to china.

also im kinda broke, as right now i have 200 to my name. i was planning on getting a job, but the university starts in september. should i just leave it?
